COTCHA is an acronym for Coded Objective to Tell Computers and Humans Apart. Similar to the CAPTCHA scheme, this script can be integrated into any pre-existing web form and/or perl script to add an extra element of spam protection.

Have a web form that spammers are using for their own devious purposes? Many times these forms are actually used by Robots-- programs which surf the Internet and submit junk into web forms everywhere.

The problem for these robots is that they're not very smart. Usually any sort of challenge which would be obvious to a human will completely confound a program.

My COTCHA script is one of these "challenges." It generates a numeric sequence and displays it right in your form -- even a form that you have had made for you, or one that you've downloaded from the Internet. When the user or robot submits the form, my script checks to see if this numeric code has been typed correctly. If not, the process is interrupted.

Right now the COTCHA number is plain text the next step of this scripts development is to create an image of the Cotcha code using ImageMagick. Since most web servers dont come with the ImageMagick program preinstalled, Im going to leave it off until its absolutely critical or someone makes a special request for the code to be "imagefied."

So if youre having trouble with comment spam, feel free to get this script. Subscribe to the RSS feed as well so you can be kept up to date on new releases.

When moving a web site to a new server, you may now easily preserve file dates in the transfer. Especially when using Blosxom, which organizes blogs by filedate, it is important to maintain this date information.

I really like this utility. Using a LOC file returned a nice GPX file.

Thanks for the nice code. I'm going to get some other geocaching software, and see if your GPX file works in it.

When I entered a LOC file, the results that I got back looked great in notepad. This looks like a GREAT tool!
